I’m back from another tough morning on the beach, happy to report that the project has reached the Omni and should be at the Tri-Royals in a few days! I took some photos today of the area behind the Ritz, Le Meridien, Cancun Palace and the Marriotts. Stunning! Yes, there is a “ledge” of sand near the sea, but it’s not insurmountable and hopefully it will even itself out soon. Here are your pics….

Le Meridien Beach After (Dec. 29/2009)

You can see the whole set of photos from today in our Cancun Beach Recovery Dec. 29 Flickr set. Cancun Travel will continue to update, we’ll have new photos next week, stay tuned!

Hey, some friends and I were planning on staying at the Oasis Cancun in the first week in February. I believe this project is supposed to be done around February 10. Is this still the target date or have there been some delays? Also, will the beach be available at the Oasis Cancun for the first week in February? Thanks.

Hi Joel,
The news today is a little worrying, they have suspended the project for financial reasons and at this minute it’s unclear when they will restart. I will be posting an update when more information is available, sorry to be the bearer of what could be bad news!

Hi Lyn,
I’m going at the oasis cancun next week..i know the suspended the project but i want to know if they have restored the beach in front the oasis resort or not…?thanks

We are planning to stay at the Hilton in late March 2010. What are the beach and swimming conditions there? I have read a few posts about rocky / rough swimming at the Hilton. Is that the case at the Hilton and at other hotels too?
Which hotels have the best swimming beach?
January 4th, 2010 at 11:53 am
Any news on when the project may get started again?
January 5th, 2010 at 6:07 pm
I have been searching myself but no luck on Crown Paradise updates. Any new info about that resort? Or are they still a long ways from restoring that beach area?
January 6th, 2010 at 6:05 am
are they going to lahia condos ??
January 6th, 2010 at 6:06 am
were are they right now ??
January 6th, 2010 at 9:38 am
Hi Paul,
The plan for the project is to go all the way to Club Med so Lahia should get the treatment. There was a delay last week, but I believe they only lost a day or two. They are currently around the Omni and the Tri-Royals.
Hope that helps!
January 6th, 2010 at 9:42 am
Hi Dow,
They haven’t reached Crown Paradise yet, they are currently around the Omni and the Royal Resorts. There is no public timeline so I can’t tell you when they will reach the Crown Paradise, but the project should be completed in Cancun by March if that helps.
January 6th, 2010 at 9:46 am
Hi Janet,
They have restarted the project, I believe they only lost a day or two. Full steam ahead now!
January 6th, 2010 at 9:49 am
Hi Judy,
Hopefully the beach will be complete by end of March (that is the plan). If they beach is reconstructed, there shouldn’t be any problems with rocks, however, the east side of Cancun island can have some rough surf. The north side of the island has completely calm waters that are great for swimming, but they don’t have the same beautiful views and colours of the sea. The ocean at the Hilton is swimmable but wavy. Hope you have a lovely vacation!
January 6th, 2010 at 9:54 am
Hi Dan,
They should be done at the Oasis Cancun, they are currently in the area around the Omni and Tri-Royals (south of the Oasis Cancun). Hope it’s fabulous for you!
January 6th, 2010 at 4:56 pm
Thank you very much for the help! Thats great news.
January 6th, 2010 at 5:56 pm
hi lyn,
i’m going to the grand oasis cancun in january 12th. Do you think the beach in front the hotel will be finish or they will work on the beach?
January 6th, 2010 at 6:02 pm
We will be staying at the Royal Solaris from 1/19-1/26/10. Will they be done with that area by that time? Thanks.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:38 am
hello Lyn,
I just wanted to say thank you very much for what you are doing for everyone here… you don’t have to answer all of our questions but you do at the best you can… this helps us a lot with our travelling plan.
You are the best.
I wish you a very happy new year.

Hello Lyn,
I’ve been following the comment regarding the beaches in Cancun. Do you have any info regarding beaches in the Playa del Carmen area? A group of us want to come down in March and are a bit afraid to book. Looking at both Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Some of the group would like to go snorkeling is the water cloudy with all the construction?
January 9th, 2010 at 3:39 pm
Hi Lyn,
We were planning on staying at Le Meridien the last weekend in January and had heard there was no beach there or by the Ritz in April. How is it now?
Thank you so much.
January 11th, 2010 at 9:58 am
The beach at Le Meridien is complete and beautiful! We’ve got some photos up on Flickr, have a peek here….

Hi Debra,
The project will be moving to Isla Mujeres when they are finished in Cancun, then on to Playa del Carmen. There is no publicly available timeline for the project so it’s difficult to say where they will be in March. I would contact the hotels you are interested in and see if they have more specific information. In terms of snorkeling, the reef is a few kilometers away from where the project is happening and I do not think it will be affected. Best snorkeling is around Puerto Morelos, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel and Akumal, the water should be crystal clear and beautiful!

Thanks Melanie! I appreciate the kind words. I hope your plans are going well and that you have a fantastic trip! (I am a transplanted Canadian living in Cancun, a special hello to my fellow countrymen!)

You are welcome… I would so love to be in your shoes… i would live in Cancun forever if I could. I love the people and of course, the weather
Have a great day and if you want, we could meet when we are over there… let me know.

Hi Lyn,
I just wanted to message you again to get another update. I just discovered on trip advisor a list of the resorts that have received new beaches in Cancun, and Crown Paradise was not on it. Do you have more accurate/recent info on the Crown Paradise beach and if they have completed it yet? Thanks for any help…again!
Dow
January 26th, 2010 at 9:15 am
Hi Dow,
I was down at Playa Delfines last week and the work was at the Solaris hotels, just south of Crown Paradise, so I have to assume that the CPC did receive the beach recovery treatment (they were working north to south), I don’t think they would skip them. There are hotels south of the Solaris that are not part of the project, but the CPC is north of there. The beach at that end isn’t bad anyway, I was at the Solaris before the recovery and it actually had a nice stretch of beach. Hope that helps!
January 26th, 2010 at 11:26 am
Thanks Lyn, I really appreciate it. I wont be bothering you anymore! Thanks for all the help.
January 26th, 2010 at 11:31 am
Dow, not a bother at all, hope you have a terrific trip!

The Royal is a spectacular hotel and now the beach is enormous. I know you’ll love it and have a great trip. Safe travels!

February 12th, 2010 at 9:40 am

February 12th, 2010 at 9:42 am
Melias are done and you are almost here! Enjoy the beach time.
February 16th, 2010 at 1:44 am
So has the entire beach been completed now? Can you please list the hotels that do not have beaches available or did not have their beach repaired?
Thank you so much for your updates!
February 17th, 2010 at 9:30 am
Yes, the project has finished in Cancun. I believe they stopped around the Cancun Plaza condos, just south of the Royal Solaris. Anything south of there did not receive the treatment, but from what I understand the beaches there hadn’t suffered erosion as badly as some further up the coast. I believe (though I have not been out to check) that the Bel Air, Hotetur, Sun Palace, Westin Regina and Club Med didn’t get new beaches. The hotels on the north side of Cancun were not included in the project either, only from Dreams at Punta Cancun and south to the area around the Solaris.
