TULUM and XELHA

For those who visit Cancun and the Riviera Maya, the second most attended tour after Chichen Itza archeological zone, is TULUM-XELHA. It is an activity that anyone who visits the Mexican Caribbean should try.

The archeological zone of Tulum is a sacred space located on the highest zone of the Riviera Maya coast. It was used by the ancient Mayans as observation and defense point against invasions. Here you will understand the connection existing between nature, the sea and Mayan people among an atmosphere that inspires respect and a mystic sensation of union with nature just the way Mayans should have lived. This is one of the few archeological zones around the world set at the edge of sea and is the third most visited of Mexico.

After this mystic experience of a couple of hours, the visit to Xel Ha eco-park will give you a complete vision of the richnesses essence that Mexico offers to those who visit this Mexican area, since it will get you closer to an encounter with native fauna and flora species, as well as natural environments of sea, cenotes, inlets, mangroves with their whole wild life among a rustic but comfortable atmosphere provided with all the services.

  • I agree with everything that is stated above, and want to add the following for consideration. I LOVE the Mayan ruin sites, especially the ruins of Chichen Itza. However, during the summer, the temperature can become quite high, as does the humidity. This is because the site is located inland, and of course this means no Caribbean crosswinds. I therefore always advise people that if you only plan to visit the Yucatan once in your lifetime, visit the ruins of Chichen Itza. However, if you believe you will return, and most people do again and again, then I recommend to visit Tulum during the summer months. The site is considerably smaller than Chichen Itza, but it offers a wonderful view of the Caribbean Sea and a cooling effect that the location allows for, being situated on cliffs. I also recommend that if you visit Tulum, to wear a bathing suit and take advantage of the opportunity to swim at the small beach located at the site. Finally, I always point visitors to Xel-Ha, as the eco park to couple with Tulum. This is because it is a smaller park than others in the area, and can be seen in its entirety in a single day. I also love the all-inclusive plan which saves so much time and money, something other area eco parks do not offer. Finally, the snorkeling at Xel-Ha is fantastic, and I highly recommend taking an inner tube and floating through the mangroves on the lazy river. After writing this, I cannot wait to get back!
